Vanucci Back Protector Vest:

As someone who always rides with a back protector I will also be the first to admit that doing so can often be a nuisance and on occasion even a distraction. My approach has always been a “one type for all occasions” and after having tried out the latest offering from Vanucci I’ve realised the error of my way.

The “protector vest” is a lightweight level 2 protector which is incorporated within a zipped waistcoat. A simple idea which after using, has had me questioning why it hasn’t become the norm for road riding. The back protector itself is extremely flexible and also pre curved which means it immediately feels comfortable much akin to a memory foam pillow/mattress. My usual back protector, like many on the market is flat as a board, also requiring some warming up before it doesn’t feel like you’ve strapped an ironing board to your back. This issue always results in fun and games with the various straps to try and keep it in place whilst I try and get my leathers up and over the thing. The vest completely removes all of these issues, so much so that during my test of the product (a near freezing day at Danny Webbs Flat Track School) I actually forgot I was wearing it.

This was a revelation in comparison to my last visit. This was also subject to a similar temperature during which I spent the day fighting my normal protector which was too rigid and as a result kept riding up my back and restricting my head movements. With it being a vest it simply stays in place, so whether it be pulling your leathers up and down or putting a jacket on it happens quickly and easily.

At £156.07 the protector vest is certainly at the premium end of the market and it shows in the quality of the materials and design ideas that are present such as the clearly thought out ventilation and waisted fit, making it the perfect back protector for a range of motorcycle activities.
